Finally mountains, finally the Canada how I had it in my mind. Now I am on the road for almost two weeks and I almost crossed Canada completely. After I left Toronto and Ontario behind me the part of Canada started the people have warned me about. Where Ontario is offering lakes and hills, the area is offering an open and wide prairie landscape. It is kind of stunning and frightening at the same time to have so much “nothing” around you like on the way between Winnipeg and Calgary. Especially in the winter it is a challenge when the strait line highways are leading through the white endlessness. You really start to look for any kind of color around you.
The Canada how I imagined it is starting behind Calgary. I saw the first mountain peaks about 20 minutes after I left the area of Calgary and an incredible feeling filled me. From there it was still about beautiful 150 km through the mountains landscapes of the Banff National Park and I enjoyed every single one of them.
The first day on the board was exactly as bad as expected. Painful and exhausting. Not because I fell so much, no I just fell 4 times what is a real good average considering to my physical constitution. I did not snowboard for over 6 years and also no sport for 10 months. I was basically crawling from the hill to the hotel.
The second day was even better than expected. I did not fall at all and somehow I managed to forget the muscle soreness I had all over my body. The weather was even better then yesterday and so I took the camera up the hill. But I was too worried about the camera so I took the lift down. Because of that, a lot of pictures are made with the iphone. Anyway have fun with the pics.
And so i close as always: Cheers, ND
